Generational
Firstly I just want to acknowledge the great work you have been doing to keep us informed about all things Collingwood. The platform you have created to share content is something you should personally be proud of.
A story of my Collingwood journey goes all the way back to my Great Grandad. We are still learning about his past but he was born and bred in Johnston Street Collingwood, him and his brother we believed owned the Tote hotel for a short time, was a gambler and had links to John Wrens (the famous benefactor of the Pies) betting houses and of course a mad pies fan.
His son (my Grand dad) went to the Collingwood convent for a short time, through the depression lived in over 10 houses all around Victoria Park, and of course a mad Pies fan. Ended up being a policeman at the Collingwood Police station as well for a short time. He was out of us all the most passionate and one eyed, he hated Melbourne the most as it was a suburban class was and they were our biggest rivals til 1964. And Richmond and Fitzroy he talked about the street fights before the games and Collingwood And Essendon the fights between the Catholics and Prodestants.
My Dad went to Northcote High, went to Victoria Park all his teenage life and took me to many games as a kid as well as my uncle who was also mad Collingwood And I had a Great uncle from my Mums side who played 4 games for Collingwood as well.
And I have been a pies fan (I only had 1 choice) for 48 years, grew up watching Collingwood at all the suburban grounds and traveled and lived alot interstate and overseas and have got many people who never knew AFL to be Pies fans for life And my wife who is from the Philippines is well and truely entrenched a Pies fan.
When living in Melbourne I go to every game like you, I stand in the Ponsford stand with basically the same family and friends who have been with me for 35 years plus watching our beloved Pies
